What is Advisory? Every LMS student is assigned an advisory group that is led by two teachers. At least one of the teachers will be the student’s team or class teacher. Advisory is replacing class meeting groups this year. In other schools it may be called something else, like homeroom. During this time, teachers will do individual or small group check ins, complete social-emotional learning lessons, give information about the schedule for the week and more. Advisory is live at 9am on Mondays.
What are the expectations for attendance in synchronous (live) classes? Students are expected to be logged into Zoom during the entirety of each live class. Attendance will be taken during all live classes. Parents must report any excused absences to the LMS attendance office.
What are the expectations for students when they are not in live classes? Students will be assigned asynchronous (independent) learning which they will be expected to complete when they are not attending live classes. This may be in the form of watching videos to prepare for class, independent practice, homework or group work.
When are teachers available for extra assistance/support? Teachers have office hours on Mondays at 10:15 and 12:15. They will also use this time to meet with small groups of students who need support. This may be virtually or in-person based on student need or teacher request. Teachers are also available by appointment from 8:10-9:00 (daily) and from 2:30-3:10 (Tuesday-Friday). Please reach out to the specific teacher if a student needs assistance, has questions, etc. Learning Centers offer a higher level of structure and support for students who are unable to access virtual learning, and will be open from 9:00am-2:30pm Tuesday-Friday. Students who are eligible for this resource have been notified.
